Lionel is an associate in the litigation and dispute resolution team, with a practice spanning property, building and construction disputes, owners corporation recovery, and shareholder and fiduciary claims. Lionel has acted for Owners Corporations and their managers, developers, lenders, real estate agents, company directors and minority shareholders. His work runs across the Supreme Court of Victoria including the Commercial Court, the Federal Court of Australia, the County Court, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Building Appeals Board. It covers levy and debt recovery, building defect claims, equitable claims involving constructive trust and knowing receipt, oppression proceedings and winding up applications. Before moving into practice, Lionel managed a portfolio of Owners Corporations for a national strata group, advising committees and developers on scheme establishment, plans of subdivision and defect claims against builders. That grounding gives him a practical view of how a development behaves after settlement, which shapes the advice he gives before one is built. Lionel is fluent in Mandarin and NAATI accredited, and acts for Chinese background developers, Owners Corporation committees and investors who want Australian litigation capability without a translation layer. He served as Secretary to the Board of a registered charity, where he led a restructure of the constitute on and governance framework. He is entrepreneurial by nature and exceptionally responsive.
