Gruen Architecture - Simone Schenkel
Simone Schenkel is a certified Passive House designer and the founder at Gruen Eco Design & Gruen Architecture. She has used the passion, experience and knowledge she gained from her upbringing and architectural studies in Germany to create Gruen, where she works with her clients to create not only beautifully designed spaces that won’t cost the earth but also spaces that are healthy, thermally comfortable, energy efficient and resilient for future generations.
Gruen Architecture specialises in bespoke, energy efficient and sustainable buildings, including residential, educational buildings, commercial and co-housing projects. With six certified passive house designers in-house, they incorporate passive house methods into their designs ensuring that buildings are energy-efficient and sustainable without compromising on style, design, quality, or efficiency. This cost optimization approach means that clients can achieve their sustainability goals while staying within budget.

NCC's 7 Stars Unveiled (Gruen Architecture - Simone Schenkel)
The new NCC energy efficiency ratings are coming soon! And going from 6 to 7 stars will have a BIG impact!
There is only so much insulation you can fit into a standard wall and most designs require double glazing anyway to get them to the 6 stars!!! Even with the best double glazing, some home designs will struggle to get to 7 stars.
A house with poor solar access will be difficult to get up to 7 stars… SO… the design and orientation of the house is paramount!
There is a lot of confusion out there about what all this means in practical terms. But it doesn’t have to be that way! We are lucky to have Simone Schenkel from Gruen Architecture join us to talk about:
- how to tackle the new 7 star requirements with ease
- what will happen during the transition period
- how to build 7 star plus developments without breaking the bank
- how to achieve excellence in sustainability
- how to use the energy rating program as a design tool
- working with an energy rater throughout the project

Bunawat Thepabutra
Bunawat Thepabutra was working 9-5 as a Consultant, now moved on to full time property developer and mortgage brokering business. He completed multiple reno-flips deals when starting his property journey, and recently completed a PPR duplex deal. Bunawat picked up three JV deals doing two duplex builds and a large 1 into 8 townhouse deal.

- hiccups with council
- council trees needed to be removed
- tree on site removed where it should have been kept
- financing the construction
- paperwork not completed and endorsed correctly = very costly!
- building rapport with all stakeholders, council included = big savings!
- have your team's back and give them relevant ammunition to fight your war for you!
